benedictine abbey of st. godenzo Mugello
This is a religious building of the few examples of Romanesque architecture in Tuscany. The simple stone facade is preceded by a large staircase that leads in a nave, the abbey built on an ancient church is divided into three naves. The interest lies with the pulpit on wooden statue of St. Sebastian and some paintings of great historical and artistic-cultural. The structure of the abbey has remained largely unchanged over the centuries, except for some restoration and amendment made in 1482. Remember that the abbey was a place of meeting between the Guelphs and Ghibellines exiles, including Dante Alighieri also participated, another of Beloeil particular is the body of St mummificato Gaudenzio Preserved in the crypt below.
